Omaha Business Thrives With Rise Of The “Zoom Boom”

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – COVID makes us experience our lives through the eyes of a computer camera and it gives Americans a close up of themselves, perhaps too close.

“It started with COVID and I started doing a lot of Telemed visits,” Brooke Burkman said.

Burkman, who is the spa patient coordinator at Lovely Skin Omaha, has spent the last year recording many hours on Zoom and during the sessions Brooke has started to notice a few things about herself.

“You can see yourself and you can see how you are getting older,” Brooke said. “Your fine lines, your wrinkles, and that made me more embarrassed by that.”

So Brooke turned to Dr. Joel Schlessinger for help.

“I was like, please help me look younger and I just decided it was time,” Brooke said.

It’s time for some Botox.

“I got it on my forehead, then around my eyes for fine lines and wrinkles. Then I got filler as well, ”Brooke explained. “I mean, sometimes you still need a little more help.”

She is not alone.

“It has been a very busy time, let me say,” said Dr. Joel Schlessinger.

Business is booming at Lovely Skin.

“There’s what they call the Zoom Boom. These are basically people who see themselves or other areas and they see a significant number of things that they could change or improve, ”said Dr Schlessinger.

In the era of COVID, many people have turned to technology for work. Video calls, like Zoom, gave people a magnified view of themselves.

“When you frown when talking to people, it’s different than when you are in a mirror,” said Dr. Schlessinger. “We used to tell people that when you look in a magnifying mirror it’s very annoying, but honestly, Zoom calls are about where you are at.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, over 15.5 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2020 alone, botulinum products, like Botox, were the most sought-after injectable treatment with over 4.4 million of interventions carried out.

At Lovely Skin, business has grown by around 20%.

“We’re seeing a huge uptake of Coolsculpting, Liposuction this year and of course Botox and fillers,” Schlessinger said.

A trend that is expected to continue, Brooke hears about it every day.

“You know with fine lines and wrinkles, they all want to know what’s next,” Brooke said.

A step that she is happy to have taken.

“I feel really good, I feel like I’m getting old inside out.”

With any injectable procedure, it is recommended that you seek out a certified dermatologist, where the environment is professional and sterile.
