August 11, 1940 – January 31, 2022
Hilton Head, SC – Lois Ann Dudley
Lois Dudley, loving wife and world traveler, died suddenly after suffering a heart attack on January 31, 2022, just one month after the death of her husband, Bud Dudley (101). She was 81 years old. Her son Ronn Dudley predeceased her in 2019 after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her brother, Corbin (“Cork”) Cowguill and his wife, Judy; three stepchildren, Susan, Michael and Patricia; daughter-in-law Kristina Fuhr Dudley; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, as well as many dear colleagues and friends, especially the Saturday morning breakfast group and the Sunday brunch group.
Daughter of Corbin Cowguill and Cora Louise Burger, Lois was born on August 11, 1940 in Lebanon, Ohio. She grew up in Morrow, Ohio, and graduated from Little Miami High School. Lois worked as a secretary with increasing experience and responsibility before joining North American Aviation in Columbus, Ohio. From 1960 to 1984, she worked at the Rockwell International Missile Systems Division in Columbus, in engineering research, budget planning, and administrative management. It was there that she met and married Irwin Robert “Bud” Dudley in 1967. During this time she also worked on loan for the National Alliance of Business as an account executive in community relations. Lois attended Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, majoring in business administration and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1981. After graduation, she continued to work at North American Aviation Rockwell, moving with Bud to Atlanta, GA and in Stockholm, Sweden when Bud became a consultant to the Swedish government. After Bud retired, they moved to the house they built on the island of Hilton Head, South Carolina. There Lois began her work as a travel consultant in the travel industry.
Throughout their marriage, Lois and Bud traveled the world. She was first a valued travel consultant with Carlson Wagonlit Travel and then for over 20 years with Valerie Wilson Travel. Noted for her passion for travel and caring attention to her clients, Lois has won Island Packet’s Readers’ Choice Award for Best Travel Agent for several years. Lois and Bud have traveled the world, visiting over 100 countries, multiple times, and making friends everywhere. She had flown more than 2.5 million miles and she and Bud were both members of Delta Airlines. Two of his favorite places were Vietnam and New Zealand. Last December, Lois and Bud sailed from Lisbon, Portugal to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and were looking forward to a Panama Canal cruise in February and a trip to Stockholm later this year. Their travelogues are legendary and Lois had a fantastic memory for the details of the trip. To complement her spirit of adventure, she loved good food and wine and enjoyed shopping in every port and country she visited.
Lois and Bud have shared a wonderful life and are once again traveling the world together. May they rest in peace together, knowing that they will forever be in our hearts.
A celebration of life for Lois and Bud will be held at a later date. Donations in Lois’ memory can be made to the Hilton Head Choral Society, your local Humane Society or your favorite non-profit organization.
