German specialists to train Kyrgyz laboratory workers to detect COVID-19 variants
AKIPRESS.COM – The CharitÃ© – UniversitÃ¤tsmedizin Berlin joint medical mission, the Martsinovsky Institute of Medical Parasitology and Tropical Medicine and the German Society for International Cooperation arrived in Bishkek on May 10 with German financial support.
One of the mission’s main areas of work is to provide training on the detection of variants of Covid-19 in laboratories in Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Health and Social Development said.
The mission is cooperating with the National Reference Laboratory, which will receive support for the sequencing and analysis of the coronavirus.
Workers at the Bishkek and Osh State Laboratories will receive training in diagnostics and biosafety.
50,000 PCR tests and extraction kits will be given to local laboratories. The mission will also provide reagents for the sequencing of the coronavirus variants necessary for the training.
Germany has already supplied oxygen equipment, protective clothing, consumables for PCR tests, hygiene products. The emergency department at the German-funded Jalal-Abad Hospital was launched in July 2020 for the treatment of patients with coronavirus infection.
