Peter Rossdale: Founded the world renowned veterinary practice in Newmarket

Peter Rossdale, the founder of the world famous veterinary practice in Newmarket, passed away last month at the age of 94.

After ignoring the advice of his householder at Stowe School, Rossdale embarked on a natural science degree at Trinity College Cambridge with the avowed intention of becoming “a first class veterinarian rather than a medical doctor. second order ”.

He founded his own practice in 1959 – working with a single day off for the first two years – and pioneered a wide range of treatments for complications in newborn foals.

Since then the company has more than 50 veterinarians and has grown to include an equine hospital, diagnostic center, pathology laboratory and branches in Hertfordshire and Lambourn.

Rossdale was widely admired internationally and worked on a number of research projects with colleagues around the world, while his long list of publications included two landmark books in The Horse’s Health From AZ (co-authored with Sue Wreford) and Veterinary Notes for Horse Owners.

Rossdale withdrew his part of the Rossdales partnership in 2002, but remained extremely active in the field and received the Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship in 2010, as well as an OBE for services to veterinary work from the Queen. .
