Basildon Veterinary Hospital will open this summer

A NEW state-of-the-art veterinary hospital – costing £16m – will open this summer as bosses say the project is moving forward

The hospital is nearing completion and bosses are confident it will open in August to begin treating sick pets.

It will provide one of the largest and best equipped veterinary referral centers not only in the UK, but also across Europe.

It is around 42,000 square feet and costs around £16 million.

Andrew Baggott, leader of Basildon Council, believes the scale of the new hospital opening shows how open Basildon is to all types and sizes of business.

He said: “This is really good news for Basildon and the wider region. It’s very exciting and welcome too.

“It shows that Basildon is open to all businesses, and we welcome any other industries that might want to join us.”

The new center is about ten minutes from its current site but will be more than double the size.

It will have an innovative cancer treatment center, comprehensive diagnostic suites, 24/7 emergency referral service, seven operating rooms, recovery rooms, an intensive care unit and 14 consultation rooms.

There will also be 180 kennels, including 163 for dogs and 17 for cats.

A spokesperson for Southfields Veterinary Specialists said: “This is a really exciting time for all of us here at Southfields as we approach the opening of our new £16million referral centre.

“An enormous amount of hard work and thought has gone into the design and construction of the site, which will provide state-of-the-art care on a 40,000 square foot site.

“We hope to start seeing patients in August and there is a huge sense of accomplishment for all of us now that the project is coming to an end.

“The new facility will provide one of the largest and best-equipped multidisciplinary veterinary referral centers not only in the UK, but also across Europe.

“We have consulted with animal behaviourists from day one, which means we can provide a center that meets and exceeds the needs of our patients and clients like no other in the UK.

“It’s a huge change for us in every way. Our team of experts will double in size and we will become one of the largest and best equipped referral centers in the UK.
